Navigating Through Life’s Transitions

The 6 of Swords, from Llewellyn's Classic Tarot.
The 6 of Swords, from Llewellyn’s Classic Tarot.

When our Tarot card for today, the 6 of Swords, drifts your way, it’s saying you are in a state of transition; the waters of life are shifting from being choppy (which are the burdens, pressures, and difficulties) to becoming calm and tranquil. This card acknowledges that you’ve been experiencing difficulties and you are moving away from those difficulties.

Are you ready for the calm after the storm?

The ferryman symbolizes getting assistance during this time of transition. This assistance can come in the form of other people, but more than likely the shift takes place in own your head and being more objective in your thinking.

Swords represent the way we think and communicate, as well as our decision-making and problem-solving abilities. For me, the suit of Swords represents our “mental atmosphere.” In order to transition out of our challenges in life (the choppy waters), we have to be willing to think about things differently, to see situations from a new point of view (the woman and child are at a different eye level than the ferryman, which will give them all a different viewpoint and perspective).

The ferryman is a re-minder (a way to think differently) that life is about learning to navigate through challenging moments (the 6 swords in his boat represent experience). When you are in that state of transition, reflect on past experiences that you successfully navigated through, and know that you will make it through this current one as well.

The only way to the other side of a challenge is to move through it.

Your partner in navigating the waters of life,

James
