When our Tarot card for today, the 2 of Cups (also known as “Love”), is offered to you, its message is for you to be in touch with yourself.

The image on today’s card is of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. According to Christian scripture, Eve was born from a rib that came from Adam. For me, this symbolizes that our feelings (Eve) are a natural part of our being (Adam), and that we have a choice (the card being numbered 2) as to how we express them. Eve being given physical form can suggest that at some point our feelings will come out—one way or another.

Being a card of relationships and partnerships, and keeping with the imagery of this particular card, this can indicate the importance of acknowledging the relationship we have with ourselves. While most consider the first primary relationship we have as being the one we have with our parents, it is really the relationship we have with ourselves that is the first. People come and go in and out throughout our lives, but we will always be with ourselves. There’s a saying that “no matter where you go, there you are.”

Our thoughts (Adam) and our feelings (Eve) go hand-in-hand. We all have a masculine (Adam) and a feminine aspect (Eve) that goes beyond our physical gender. Adam and Eve holding hands symbolize being in touch with those aspects, as they are a natural part of who we are (the backdrop of the Garden, which is nature and represents our “nature”).

Are you connected to your thoughts and your feelings? If so, how well? Adam and Eve being naked symbolize authenticity, a request to be honest and open about how you think and feel—but if you can’t be honest with yourself first, how can you be so with others—and get the same in return? I’ve heard the word “intimacy” being “into me see,” which is a call for us to form a deeper connection with ourselves—which will then enable us to more deeply connect to others, and them to deeply connect with us.

So, for today, when you reflect on all the bonds, connections, friendships, and relationships in your life and the love you have for each of those individuals–also remember to love yourself enough to be in love with you too.

Do you love you?
