Dream Decoding: Half of a Baby

Welcome back to another edition of Dream Decoding, my column dedicated to decoding your dreams!

Today’s dream entry comes from a regular reader of the column.

The Dream: Half of a Baby

This is her dream, which is short:

babyI am dreaming of a co-worker. She is pregnant (both in the dream and in waking life). She is giving birth to her baby. There is only half of the baby, which is the upper half.

The dreamer shared this about the dream:

“I woke from the dream very disturbed. I immediately thought of some possible health concern for this co-worker and her baby. I also considered the health of my own child.”

Decoding Half of a Baby

The subject matter of this dream is the dreamer’s workplace. This is due to the appearance of a woman who is a co-worker in the life of the dreamer.

Giving birth to half of a baby is saying that there is a situation taking place that has not been fully developed. The upper half of the body has to do with the head and the heart (the upper torso). On the basis of this, the dream is centering on the dreamer and the thoughts and feelings she has about her job (being the baby being born in the dream, as Rule Number One of Dream Decoding is that the dreamer is everything in the dream).

She may be prematurely expressing her thoughts and feelings (symbolized by the baby coming into the world not fully developed), sharing things others might see as being “half-baked” ideas (baby being a pun for “a bun in the oven,” as well as being “half” of a baby), because she has not allowed herself the time to fully develop–or “flesh out”–these thoughts and feelings.

Keeping with this, the dream could be suggesting that the way she is expressing her thoughts and feelings at the workplace are making her come across as immature (baby representing a level of immaturity).

And this might be the reason: The baby is born without legs. Being born without legs points to something missing for the dreamer in her workplace.

Not having legs can suggest not being supported in the workplace. She may feel, at times, that she doesn’t have “a leg to stand on” at the job, or that she is in an environment that she can’t really “walk away” from. Some conditions in her life may have her thinking and feeling (upper torso of baby) that she needs to stay right where she is (not having legs renders one immobile); this is having an effect on her mentally and emotionally (upper torso of the baby).

Another possibility is that the dreamer is being given responsibility at the workplace (babies in dreams represent responsibilities because we have to care for them) that she may believe she is not equipped to handle (baby not fully developed). She may believe this is “handicapping” her, putting her at some type of disadvantage.

In closing…

I would like to thank this dreamer for sharing this dream. I look forward to her circling back and sharing her thoughts and feelings about the decoding of her dream.

And, until that time, if you have a dream you’d like to submit to Dream Decoding, please e-mail your submissions to james@jameshimm with Dream Decoding and the title of the dream in the subject line.

Sweet dreams!
