Card of the Week: Fresh Start, Clean Slate

When Fresh Start, Clean Slate turns up, it’s a signal that you’re about to enter into a new phase or chapter in your life experience. You’re getting a clean slate and a fresh start (hence the name of the card) – what will you do with it?

In the image, a young man is in the rain, arms raised to the sky. In one regard, this new phase or chapter can come as the result of weathering a particular type of “storm” in your life – and as Barry Manilow once sang, “you’ve made it through the rain.” Keeping with this aspect, Fresh Start, Clean Slate can suggest energetically showering off that experience, as a form of rejuvenation and revitalization.

As I type those words, I’m hearing the lyrical hook from the song “Back to Life.” That’s a nice segue into another possibility with this card. For me, the rain can symbolize life; with that, this card can suggest letting life (back) in, to move beyond the thought or idea that you need to protect yourself from it – possibly due to prior experiences of being hurt or taken advantage of. If that’s the case, the rain can suggest creating an atmosphere in which you can do some (healthy) emotional releasing around those moments from the past. In that regard, you’re taking the step toward birthing a new you, as the image can suggest the incarnation of the self.

And since I mentioned the self, Fresh Start, Clean Slate can be a reminder that you are a different and unique expression in this world – and for you to show up as yourself. Going back to the image, it could also seem as if the young man is dissolving away in the rain – losing sense of himself and who he is. Where might that be true for you? The message here would be to stop trying to conform to the standards of those around you – to be you and do you. How can we help each other learn to respect and embrace differences in others – if we’re seeking to fit in and be the same?

Whatever the case may be for you specifically, Fresh Start, Clean Slate signals a time of coming into your own. If you’re a spiritual being having a human experience, this card can suggest a “surrendering to the process,” allowing the Divine (in whatever form It takes for you) to assist you in that process of becoming.
