Dream Decoding: The Man in the Shadows

Hello and welcome to the latest entry of Dream Decoding, my column dedicated to decoding your dreams!

This entry is a recurring dream the dreamer had some time ago, until she used an unorthodox method to make it stop. This is her dream, preceded by her brief commentary, and followed by my decoding.

The Dream: The Man in the Shadows

James,

I had a recurring dream that only stopped when I started putting a Bible under my pillow. I slept this way for 10 years, until my husband’s teasing made me stop. The memory still haunts me. I would love to know exactly what it meant.

The dream goes like this:

smallbabycribsI am crouched down underneath a crib, scared to death. I didn’t know what was coming; I just knew that it wasn’t good.

It is night time, all is dark, but I can see that I am in a crib shop, lots of cribs, and nothing but glass in the front wall.

All of a sudden, a long black stretch limo slowly pulls up, stopping right in front of the door. A man resembling Abe Lincoln, only I can’t see his face, gets out and opens the door with ease. I can still hear his footsteps, as he walks straight to the middle of the room, right where I am. I see his feet inches away from my face, as I suddenly wake up, covered in fear and sweat.

Thanx a bunch, for helping me.

Decoding The Man in the Shadows

Dear Dreamer,

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to decode your dream.

First, I will say that a recurring dream indicates not understanding the dream’s message the first time you had it. It keeps repeating until you understand its message, and apply the message to your life.

Your dream takes place in a crib shop. For me, the location can give some idea what the subject matter of the dream is. A shop is about choices and selections, about what we need or think we need in life.

The fact that the shop is a crib shop might suggest something connected to your birth (babies sleep in cribs). The dream taking place at night, and your being in the dark are saying that you are not consciously aware of what the dream is going to be telling you.

What I’m going to tell you next may come as a surprise to you. You say, in the dream, that the front wall is glass. When a dream centers on your birth (crib shop), you are shown spiritual gifts and abilities you have been born with (we all have them). In your case, the dream is telling you that you are an intuitive (psychic). The wall being glass represents being able to see through things, which is what an intuitive (psychic) does. The wall being the front wall suggests that you are able to see the future (the front wall is the ability to see what’s in front, or ahead, of you).

In the dream, you are crouched down, and you say that you are scared to death. This tells me about your “position” (crouching) on this matter. Something about this scares you (being scared to death). This would suggest that you have had intuitive or psychic experiences in your past that have scared you. This comes from your saying that “I didn’t know what was coming, I just knew it wasn’t good.” This says you have a “sense,” if you will, that something bad will happen without actually knowing what it is.

abe-lincolnThe next sequence is telling me more about your spiritual gifts. You then see a man that resembles Abe Lincoln. First and foremost, he is a President, which can indicate the gift of being a spiritual leader and/or teacher (Abe Lincoln is an authority figure with a title). The dream is telling you that this is coming into your life (he comes into the store; the store then represents what’s ‘in store’ for you).

The other thing about him is that he’s dead. This can represent being able to see spirits of the departed. You may have a difficult time accepting this, and it is in your dream, so I wouldn’t be surprised. It is in the part where you say “I can’t see his face.” This means being unable to face, or identify, with this ability (again, most likely due to fear) .

This can also suggest a past life reference, if you have that belief, because Abe Lincoln was alive in the distant past, and a part of history (which could mean your history). Usually, spiritual gifts carry over from one life to another, especially when they were not fully expressed (used) in that past life.

Another thing about Abe Lincoln was that he was assassinated, which means that you weren’t able to use these gifts in your past life, and it is coming back up in this lifetime.

black-shoesYou say you see his feet in the dream. This part is asking you to understand (feet represent understanding) that you have these abilities.

I think your fear comes from your religious beliefs (you mentioned sleeping with the Bible under your pillow).

I’m imagining Abe Lincoln wearing black shoes, which would suggest fear (black) because you don’t understand (shoes/feet) these types of things; more than likely, you think they conflict with your religious belief system.

You wake up before the dream gets to complete itself, but there is a wealth of information in what you were able to recall.

I don’t know how you feel about my decoding of your dream. I would like to hear what you think about it.

Your Dream Decoder,

James

The Dreamer Shares Her Thoughts on Her Decoded Dream

I sent the dreamer my decoding of her dream, and to let her know that it was going to be appear in the column. She sent me this reply:

James,

Thank you so much! I knew there was such a deep meaning to this dream. It all makes lots of sense now. You mention the part of cribs, and my birth…I am adopted, and never thought about this before. I have always felt a sense of knowing things others are unable to see. Thank you for decoding my dream, and for being so in-depth!!!

Have a great day!

In Closing…

I would like to thank this dreamer for her submission and response. This is why I do–and enjoy–this work so much.

And I would like to thank you for stopping by and reading the blog. It is near and dear to my heart, and I am so grateful people are reading and enjoying it.

If you have a dream you’d like to submit to Dream Decoding, please e-mail your submissions to james@jameshimm with Dream Decoding and the title of the dream in the subject line.
