Consulting the Cards: Wondering About Workshop

I felt it was time to reach into the mailbag once again (it’s been a good while), and answer a question from a reader of the column using the cards.

The submission selected is from Jamal, and I’ll let him tell you what’s going on…

The Situation: Wondering About Workshop

Hey, James,

My brother and I are both entrepreneurs, each doing our own thing. We talked recently, and he proposed that we attend a workshop out-of-state with a well-known marketing guru.

I wasn’t sure in the moment he made the suggestion; a couple years ago, we went in together and attended a multi-day workshop with another well-established guru, which came with a high-ticket price tag.

After going through the workshop, I felt I didn’t get a return on the investment I made, as putting in the effort and doing the work didn’t move the needle with my business.

And that was my brother’s idea too (even as I take responsibility and own my decision to go in financially).

With all that said, I’d like to know what the cards would like to tell me about investing in this workshop with brother.

Much thanks,

Jamal

Wondering About Workshop: What Tarot Has to Say

Hi, Jamal,

First, I’d like to thank you for your submission, and allowing the cards to answer this question for you.

I drew three cards from the CBD (Conver Ben-Dov) Tarot as a response, and I’ll go through them one at a time.

Starting things off is The Sun, which is a Major Arcana card; these types of cards highlight important issues and events, so having The Sun turn up here says this situation has some significance to you.

The Sun is a card that talks about clarification and illumination, which is what you’re seeking, wanting to know about investing in this workshop with your brother.

And since I mentioned your brother, what strikes me about The Sun card is that there are two boys in the image, which can symbolize you and your brother. Again, this visual is in alignment with aspects of the situation you’re bringing to the cards.

The sun shining down above the boys’ heads can suggest thoughts about achieving success with the material gained from the workshop.

Moving to the second card, I have The Pope, another Major Arcana card, again telling us the importance and significance of the situation for you.

The first thing that comes to mind is that The Pope can refer to a teacher, speaker, or guru, which points to the person heading up the workshop; The Pope can refer to anyone who has a “message for the masses,” or someone who has “mass appeal.”  Again, this covers another aspect of your situation.

Another aspect The Pope points out is the piece for you about the tuition, as this card is about formal education and higher learning—which come at some cost (tuition).

With that in mind, The Pope is also about gaining approval and blessing; he faces the right, and I look to a card next to this one as what is being “blessed.”

And that card is 7 of Coins. This card talks about money, as the suit of Coins can refer to financial matters. 7 of Coins, in particular, talks about a lot of money, again referring to an aspect of your situation (cost of the workshop).

What makes this card so interesting to see here is that it can also talk about an investment of time, energy, and resources (money)—and getting a return on that investment.

And it gets better: The Pope is looking at 7 of Coins—and blessing it.

This pairing is offering that investing in the workshop with your brother would be a worthwhile investment, one that would be sure to yield a return.

In addition to that, I’m getting the sense that the workshop would help you clarify (The Sun) the message (The Pope) of your work, which could lead to more profits (7 of Coins) in your business.

Looking at The Sun again, I notice that one boy is looking toward The Pope, which I would say is your brother, looking forward to learning from this marketing guru. The other, with his back to The Pope would be you, not being sure if you would get anything of value from this person.

I drew another card to place to the left of The Sun, which would be in that boy’s line of sight; the card is Ace of Swords.

This is another great card, as it can suggest clarity, a triumph, victory, and success; it can mean that an answer or solution to a problem is received (the hand holding the sword). This can be in the form of a new idea (a big one), or a new way of thinking (a concept or theory).

Another of my meanings for Ace of Swords is the mind, and with that, the need for a decision to be made.

Ace of Swords is basically saying that all these things are possible—you just have to make your mind up.

Since The Sun and Ace of Swords both talk about clarity, I wanted to draw a final card to place above that celestial body (symbol of clarification and illumination), and drew 3 of Wands.

Wands is the suit of work and business, so again there’s a card fitting with the nature of your question and situation. This one, in particular, talks about the growth and development of business, of business expansion.

It also talks about training, and the workshop is a training of sorts.

And finally, 3 of Wands can suggest taking actions that lead to the beginning stages of success.

Reading the pairing of 3 of Wands and The Sun vertically, the cards say, “The training on business growth and expansion is both clarifying and illuminating.”

Wrapping Things Up

And that is a perfect way to wrap up this reading for you, Jamal. Thank you so much sharing your question with me. I look forward to you circling back and letting me know your thoughts on what the CBD Tarot had to say.

And, just as I hope it has been helpful to Jamal, I hope you found it informative as well. I would love to hear what you think. You can share your thoughts in the comments section below.
